Alan Lomax is a legendary figure in American folk music circles. Although he published many books; hundreds of recordings and dozens of films; his contributions to popular and academic journals have never been collected. This collection of writings; introduced by Lomaxs daughter Anna; reintroduces these essential writings. Drawing on the Lomax Archives in New York; this book brings together articles from the 30s onwards. It is divided into four sections; each capturing a distinct period in the development of Lomaxs life and career: the original years as a collector and promoter; the period from 1950-58 when Lomax was recording thorughout Europe; the folk music revival years; and finally his work in academia.

I have worked with two different teachers and have also found a lot of help online and through books. This book is so excellent. In particular; Debost communicates his strong and clear sense of how the body relates to producing the tone of the flute.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Four StarsBy maiden voyagerUseful and wonderfully written; but alphabetical; so you probably wont want to read it from cover to cover.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Must-Have for Amateurs and Professionals Alike.By BoffThis fabulous book is relatively easy to read. The style is conversational; you feel youre having a personal chat with a master.I totally agree with the core philosophy of the book: Enjoy what you do; dont hurt yourself doing it; and yes: proper practice will help you enjoy the flute even more.
