Without ignoring the struggles and privations of war; the play is funny; touching and ultimately optimistic.Based on the medieval story of Aucassin and Nicolette and conceived as a form of pageant; Siege with its mixing of verse and prose; sprawling structure; employment of different speech patterns and deliberately contemporary touches; gives a unique insight into Frys development as a stage-craftsman.

Review
9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. a wordy tomeBy Thomas J. MartinoThe book is indeed wordy but still interesting. One has to do some digging in order to find exactly how the method of memory training is employed. Whistler had emphasized the usefulness of such training for the artist; and; indeed; most veteran landscape artists do rely on their visual memories particularly as the light changes during outdoor painting. It is interesting that the method was suggested in 1847 but is not a discipline taught in modern art schools.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
