At slightly under 30 pages it is a factual book filled with specifics about bears in general and 9 species of bears.I would not call any of the pictures amazing but each species has a high quality picture to show what it looks like. There are indeed 101 facts spread out among all the bears. I believe that unless you are already an expert on bears there is something you would learn from this book. This is actually a book for all ages as there is nothing scary in it for young children and enough facts for all to learn.I did notice some very important tips were missing; the ability to tell the difference while hiking in bear county between the ferocious grizzly and the milder black bear:While hiking in the wood you should always take extra precautions and keep alert for bears.It is advised that while outdoors to wear noise producing devices such as little bells on their clothing to alert but not startle the bear unexpectedly. Also to carrying pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear.It is also a good idea to watch for fresh signs of bear activity and know the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings.Black bear droppings are smaller and contain lots of berry seeds and squirrel fur.Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in them and smell like pepper.Disclosure: I received this sample product free (but at this time it is free for everyone) rate in exchange for an honest appraisal of the item. I currently teach a multiage classroom of 1st and 2nd graders with varying ability levels from non readers to students reading at or above a 5th grade level.My rating: 4 stars based on text quality.What or if I would use this for: I would use this as a resource for my students or for a boy or needs extra practice reading and is very motivated by bears.What my students thought: All the boys in my class loved it. A few girls were really into it as well- but a few also covered their eyes because they were scared. So I would recommend you know your child and or class before getting this. For instance; I wouldnt read this to my 5 year old niece.Quality of photographs or illustrations: EXCELLENT!Depth of knowledge: Excellent! It was great to read to my students about DIFFERENT SPECIES of bears!Text quality: I do not like that it is plain font with a white background. My kids love Fun Fact books. This book is great because it goes into a little more detail than other "fun fact" kind of books Ive read recently. For example: this book says that Bears are omnivores. That means that they eat both meat and plants. I like that it not only states a fun fact but gives the definition of a term that kids reading it might not be familiar with.Also; one fun fact is that a male bear is called a boar. A female bear is called a sow and a baby bear is a cub. They really couldve considered this 3 fun facts but instead labeled it as just 1.The book is broken down into about 11 chapters. The first one is the introduction with about 14 fun facts. At the end is a conclusion about how humans are bears only predator (almost.) All the chapters in between talk about different types of bears including; kodiak; polar and sloth.So all in all a great book especially for free!!***** I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review. *****
