Description

Paul Ceacute;zanne; a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter; was an important catalyst to the transition from the 19th-century conception of artistic endeavor to the modern and radically different world of art that emerged full bore in the 20th century. Ceacute;zanne successfully melded the structural impulse of Classicism with the color and emotion of Romanticism; inspiring the generations of artists who followed him to see and portray the world in a more abstract manner. Unusual for an artist; Ceacute;zanne rotated his attention relatively equally throughout his career among portrait painting; figure painting; still lifes; and landscapes. As with all things; Ceacute;zanne adopted his own approach to painting a still life. Many of his still lifes contain optical contradictions and distortions. The landscapes of Ceacute;zanne emphasize the structure and form of nature and its elementsrsquo; relationships in space; while de-emphasizing the more minor details of the scene. Not until the end of his life and careermdash;just 10 years before his death in 1906mdash;did Ceacute;zanne gain the recognition he enjoys today as a truly talented and cutting-edge man of the arts. When Ceacute;zanne was finally embraced by the public and the art critics; many younger artists traveled to Aix-en-Provence in the south of France to observe Ceacute;zanne at work. Ceacute;zannersquo;s advice to his young admirers was to engage in their own artistic endeavor and to find their unique style rather than to replicate his.

PredictableBy AshI gave the book a 3 star rating because some parts were slightly entertaining but there were others that just seemed completely predictable and at times annoying. Jools behaviour was completely juvenile. Too much for her age. The end seemed rushed. I did like how all the characters tied together someway somehow.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Just not goodBy AmyI really hate to write a bad review; but this book was just awful. There was no character development. What we did learn about the characters was not likable; implausible; or just frustrating. The plot was ludicrous and full of holes. The writing was cheesy and sophomoric. Just dont waste your time or money.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Darker Chick LitBy Kristin B.This is the second book in the Marrying Mr Darcy trilogy and I enjoyed it although it was a bit different than the others. Whereas the other books are more like chick lit; this one had less of a chick lit feel and more of a dark; suspenseful tone. The book contains elements of kidnapping and assault so it feels more serious than the others. It was still good and I would recommend reading it if you have read the others. There were several times throughout the story that I was sitting on the edge of my seat because I had to know what was going to happen with some of the characters. I like how all of Katie Olivers books switch back and forth between the characters and bring in characters from previous books so we can see how they all tie in together. All in all; I was not disappointed to have read this book and would still recommend reading it; I just wasnt expecting some of the serious issues.
