Excellent photos of the step-by-step styling process with clear instructions ...By Natalie L.Excellent photos of the step-by-step styling process with clear instructions and helpful tips. If you have already purchased the other book in this set; the beginning chapters of general information are the same; which I appreciate if I ever take only one of the two books with me. Each decade of styles are introduced with a brief history of relevant events. Spiral binding so that the book lays flat while you work. This book goes above and beyond. I would also recommend the Wig Making and Styling: A Complete Guide for Theatre Film for a more comprehensive look at the ventilation process.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Wigs; Wigs; WigsBy JenniferFor the aspiring wig designer; this book has a TON to offer. Introductory chapter is identical as its sister book. However; the guidelines in styling are very accurate and offers a lot of creative options for each time-period/decade. I have referenced this book several times when i am at a creative block while styling multiple wigs for one show. Thank you Allison Lowery! Buy all her books and her co-authored book with Martha Ruskai.5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic Styles and Instructions!By Flame_926This book was made for wig makers but you could easily use it if you were styling real hair. Im not a hair stylist but do frequently participate in historical events and large scale theater and masquerade performances. I have been looking for a clear book with basic instructions that could teach me how to do Victorian styles for events. Im honestly delighted in this book and love the clear photos and step-by-step easy instructions. Regarding 1920s-1960s styles I liked Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques better because it seemed more in depth on those decades but overall I thought that this was a great resource and one that I am happy to use in tandem with it. If you are looking for historical documentation then you will love this book. It goes in to enough history to satisfy historical group standards without bogging down its purpose of teaching you how to create the looks. It shows source photos or paintings of the styles that it teaches and gives you hints on how to do the style their way or modify it in to something unique for yourself. I would recommend teaming it with Retro Makeup: Techniques for Applying the Vintage Look to complete your appearance if you are working in the 1920s-1960s eras. If you are looking for earlier styles the author also has Historical Wig Styling Set: Historical Wig Styling: Ancient Egypt to the 1830s: (The Focal Press Costume Topics Series) available that is just as good. Highly recommended and fun.
