Arcadian America: The Death and Life of an Environmental Tradition (New Directions in Narrative History)

ePub Arcadian America: The Death and Life of an Environmental Tradition (New Directions in Narrative History) by Aaron Sachs in Arts-Photography

Description

The Art Deco exhibition in Paris in 1925 ushered in a new style of architecture based on the latest designs from Europe and American…flat roofs; plain facades; reinforced concrete and white paint inside and out. Streamlining was the watchword and houses; from bungalows to detached family homes; were planned around their internal use. Using his own drawings; diagrams and photographs; author Trevor Yorke explains in an easy-to-understand manner all aspects of the 1930s house; and provides a definitive guide for those who are renovating; tracing the history of their own home; or simply interested in houses of the period. The book is divided into four sections. The first outlines the history of the period; the second steps inside and looks at the different rooms and their fittings and goes on to describe the gardens and garages.; the third section explains briefly the developments in housing after this period; and the final section contains a quick reference guide; including notes on how to date houses; a glossary of unfamiliar terms; further reading and details of places to visit.

WilsonI would recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to get full use out of their DSLR camera. The author owns both Nikon and Cannon cameras; but all of his writing is neutral to brand; which what he says is applicable no matter what model camera you have. Since he owns a Nikon and Cannon; he will give you some specific examples about how to do a specific function such as programming ISO settings; but the settings are usually similar from camera to camera; just like all Cars have steering wheels; brakes; and signals regardless of company. He covers everything from powering on the camera; storage; lenses; pros and cons of various lenses; lighting; filters; tripods; digital touch up software; shooting styles; and more. He also gives examples of how shots look under different settings; such as a subject shot under multiple F stop (aperture) settings. The book is written for anyone from beginners to mildly experienced amateurs. Everything is explained in a simple and understandable way as well as sometimes coupled with the technical explanation as well.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An Excellent StartBy BookWorm620I bought this when I thought I was getting a DSLR as a gift; but it turned out to be an over featured point and shoot. Reading this book I was still able to apply a lot to the pictures I am taking with my fancy underachiever; and prepare for the day that I upgrade to a full DSLR.This book is an excellent starter. On a lot of the subjects covered will leave you wanting more detail perhaps; but that should just encourage you to read deeper in other books. This all in one covers just enough of each subject to give you and starting point and leads you in the correct directions. Its so comprehensive it will make you aware of many aspects you probably havent considered if your new at photography.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
