This huge "coffee table" book is filled with pictures of the Kennedys; the happy days; the terrible day; the aftermath. Whether one is suddenly coming to an interest in this part of American history or has lived it; this book is well worth the high price; for it will become an heirloom of the family. The Zapruder film is handled in very small frames that make it hard to see exactly what is happening when. The noble grief of Jackie Kennedy and the historic handling of the familys phone calls; notes; and pain are documented. It has been said that this event changed America. All our idealistic dreams of youth and energy came crashing down in a single moment. Later the salacious details of the Kennedy penchant for beautiful women would come out to dull our admiration. The book put me back into my 14-year old self; who loved John Kennedy and was sent to my room for crying. The book comes with a copy of the magazine that came out that week. What surprised me most was the number of ads in such a solemn issue.39 of 43 people found the following review helpful. "INFORMATIVE; COMPREHENSIVE; AND HISTORIC!"By Author/Reviewer Geri AhearnLife magazine revisits the tragedy of President Kennedy on November 22; 1963; as it chronicles in detail the political and personal events that took place 50 years ago. The horrifying tragic event of the assassination of JFK was one unforgettable day; that changed America. Life magazine delivers an informative and concise report about the information quickly obtained on the Kennedys life story; as the White House doors remained open for Life; before and after the assassination. Life presents information of the tragedy itself that took place in Dallas; after JFK was assassinated; while traveling in a motorcade with Jacqueline. Life reveals the anguish of how the Presidential limousine was not followed with respect; as they tell the story of the involvement of Lee Harvey Oswald. In addition; Life discusses the motorcade at 12:29 P.M.; the aftermath of this tragedy; despair from the doctors and much more. Information is included about the severity of the head wound; the news of his death to America; the Secret Service; and the terrifying trauma in Parkland Hospital. Comprehensive reports are discussed on the Dallas Police; the Oswald shooting; and the political events that took place; prior to the tragedy of JFK. Information is presented about the Warren Commission; the theory of bullet fragments found in the Presidents car; the conviction of Oswald; and how the FBI reacted. The Editors of Life discuss the remaining seconds of President Kennedys life; as voices echoed the eternal words of doom that shocked America. This historical presentation is interesting; concise; heartfelt; and thought-provoking. Highly recommended!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Must Have for all History Lovers.By Love2ReadI was only three when Kennedy was assassinated and much of what I remember came out of books and from accounts told to me by people who were old enough to remember. This book is a a compilation of the whole Kennedy Family and that awful day on November 22; 1963; in Dallas. It has plenty of first hand accounts told by the people who were there with the President and also people who were just spectators on that day.It also has the whole Zapruder film broken down frame by frame so you can see for yourself the last seconds of Kennedys life. A very shocking and sad thing to witness. It also tells the story behind how Life became the magazine to get the rights to this film.It is a very large book. Much larger than a coffee table book; but beautifully put together. It also includes a copy of the Original Life Magazine that came out days after the assassination. I have an original copy that I got on Ebay long ago and this one looks identical to that one; just in much better shape; which is wonderful because I hated to mess with my original too much for fear it would fall apart or become damaged. There was much thought put into this book and it shows. It is a wealth of information; much you have seen before and some that you may never have known. The pictures are worth the price of the book.I am very glad that I made this purchase. It is a great bit of history to own.
