Exile; probably one of the best albums ever recorded; and easily the second best album by the Rolling Stones; is a must have for any serious rock and roll collector. This book is also a must have. I give it four stars; but only because the authors personal infatuation with the Stones over-shadows his objectivity in relating the albums importance. On the other hand; I agree with virtually all of is his editorial comments; I just believe the book would have been more legitimate if he had removed his biases from his writing. The value in this book comes in the enormous amount of detail about each song on Exile on Main Street. Even the reason for the title is explained; and that is something Ive always wondered about. The information about each song is incredible; and I was particularly pleased with his in-depth look at "Rocks Off" and "Happy."After reading this book; I will never listen to the album the same again. I now am able to get much more from the album and appreciate its richness all the more. Fantastic read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Occasionally insightfulBy CoachDaveKThe authors analyses offer occasional insight into the fabric of the music and lyrics. But too often his comments lack depth.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great book for casual Stones fans (like me)By Rich L.I am not a Stones scholar. If youre one; youll probably want more minutae about the making of this album; and I dont blame you. A lot of analysis of the songs; rather than the making of the album. Can such a book be done? I dont know; but this was a very entertaining read for me.
