Arts Marketing Insights: The Dynamics of Building and Retaining Performing Arts Audiences

audiobook Arts Marketing Insights: The Dynamics of Building and Retaining Performing Arts Audiences by Joanne Scheff Bernstein in Arts-Photography

Description

Audience behavior began to shift dramatically in the mid 1990s. Since then; people have become more spontaneous in purchasing tickets and increasingly prefer selecting specific programs to attend rather than buying a subscription series. Arts attenders also expect more responsive customer service than ever before. Because of these and other factors; many audience development strategies that sustained nonprofit arts organizations in the past are no longer dependable and performing arts marketers face many new challenges in their efforts to build and retain their audiences. Arts organizations must learn how to be relevant to the changing lifestyles; needs; interests; and preferences of their current and potential audiences. Arts Marketing Insights offers managers; board members; professors; and students of arts management the ideas and information they need to market effectively and efficiently to customers today and into the future. In this book; Joanne Scheff Bernstein helps readers to understand performing arts audiences; conduct research; and provide excellent customer service. She demonstrates that arts organizations can benefit by expanding the meaning of "valuable customer" to include single-ticket buyers. She offers guidance on long-range marketing planning and helps readers understand how to leverage the Internet and e-mail as powerful marketing channels. Bernstein presents vivid case studies and examples that illustrate her strategic principles in action from organizations large and small in the United States; Great Britain; Australia; and other countries.

ClarkI dont write a lot of reviews; but felt the previous reviewer may have missed the purpose of this book. This is not a book about animating for the most part. It is a book about the business side of creating animation. There are many books about drawing for animation and the fact is books arent going to make someone a better animator. The only thing thats really going to make anyone better is practice and drawing ... lots and lots of drawing. What this book covers and does well is information on what you need to put together to raise money for your film; what types of ideas may make for a successful short animated film; what festivals to submit to; other ways to market and distribute your film; and preparing press packets; releases; and materials. This may not be of interest to someone only interested in the creative end of things; but are essential for anyone wanting to actually have a lasting career in the industry without working for one of the major studios. While I may not agree with everything Mr. Plympton puts forth; my only real complaint is that maybe some of the information is not as specific as Id like to see. That and even though it is a book about the business end of things; there is still quite a bit of drawing info. The longest chapter of the book is actually about drawing and animating; with many illustrations and such.Lots of people do animated films that never get seen or heard of. This book is for those people that want to get their films out there seen and maybe even make some money from them. Bill Plympton is one of a very small percentage of artists that know how to do this and is interested in passing on this information.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Too raw for meBy Kindle CustomerThough this gentlemen has obviously done a lot of animation I found the book to raw on his attitudes; language etc and not rich enough on content to glean to hone the skills.
