I played from the original Hanon while taking piano in college and really gained from the experience. I still pull it out and use as a warm up tool for myself. Knowing the original would be too much for most of my students; I have been looking for something that really focused on needed individual exercises that my students could really see growth. This book is just the thing! It focuses on specific exercises and then students are taught to play each in a variety of ways. I use one exercise as a weekly study that expands over a 2 or 3 month period. My students do not become bored with it. Every exercise is expanded and I adjust it to fit the ages/experience of my students....for example a student with just a couple of years experience can spend one week on learning the exercise ascending for each hand alone. The next week both hands together ascending at the same time. The following week descending for each hand alone; then together. Both hands ascending and descending; then a new rhythm of the same exercise is introduced; then another week maybe the same exercise staccato...etc. I have really seen this book make a difference and no one complains about exercises or being bored with the work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
