With their classic barns and fences; American small farms; and the buildings that support these farms; serve a much-needed purpose as much today as in the past. Even with the new technology frequently used on farms; these buildings have changed relatively little and are still used to house the animals that so many small farm owners work with and the feed; supplies; and equipment needed to maintain those animals. Every well-meaning farmer or property owner with livestock; small animals; or farming equipment has need of a barn or a series of outbuildings. Unfortunately; many farmers now rely on expensive contractors and construction companies to do a job many traditional farmers undertook themselves. Knowing how to build these structures is not only a lost American art form; it is also a skill that can save you thousands. This book has been designed to ensure that everyone who has ever thought of building their own barns; outbuildings; or animal pens knows exactly what is entailed from inception of the design to the final construction stages. You will learn exactly what you need to start building outbuildings and barns. You will learn how each animal should be cared for; what space they need in a barn; and what other outbuildings might be necessary for their comfort. For each of the structures described within this book; you will learn the required dimensions; necessities to efficiently use your new building; and extra space you might not have previously considered; including space for your motorized machinery; a workshop for maintaining your equipment; and loft space for hay bales; feed; and farming equipment.Regardless of what you need for your small farm or property; you will have a complete list of detailed building design plans. The companion CD-ROM contains design plans in PDF format for a variety of structures. Each design plan offers detailed instructions; supply lists; and diagrams. This book offers plans for building barns; storage structures; animal pens; storage sheds; and greenhouses; as well as icehouses; water tanks; cisterns; smokehouses; and root cellars. This book even offers plans for building gates; fences; wagons; farm equipment; irrigation systems; potting benches; beehives and frames; food dehydrators; and other structures and equipment necessary for the success of your small farm. If you are looking to save thousands of dollars by building your own farm structures and equipment; this book will walk you through every step of the design; preparation; and constructions process; ensuring success and capturing the lost art of small farm self-sufficiency.The companion CD-ROM is not available for download with this electronic version of the book but it may be obtained separately by contacting Atlantic Publishing Group at sales@atlantic-pub.comAtlantic Publishing is a small; independent publishing company based in Ocala; Florida. Review
0 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Author is a Privileged White Woman Who Hates White Men-- Offers Little Info about MummiesBy Life EnthusiastThe author wrote this inexplicably bad history in an attempt to write about the history of Egyptologys practice of unwrapping mummies and descends into so many anti-Western; anti-white male diatribes that she completely ignores real history. The end result is that you only get about an articles worth of information about actual Egyptology; her supposed area of expertise and even that is riddled with half truths. In her zeal to prove that statues and mummies were basically the same thing; linen-shrouded divine objects; she ends up including New Kingdom ancestor busts. Because she spends so much time disparaging white men she doesnt even have the time or inclination to include alternate theories that ancestor busts did NOT represent linen-wrapped figures. Id rather hear more about the subject at hand; Egyptology and mummies; than her non-stop diatribe against the West. This book is pretentious and at times unnecessarily wordy. Just to give you a taste of what I mean; take this one sentence that induced much eye rolling in this reader: "Frustrations; adaptations; complicities and duplicities characterize the colonial relationship; with several effects: for the colonized; such equivocations yielded fractured identities but also created forms of counter-knowledge and resistance; while for the colonizer; the reactions of their interlocators variously confirmed the worst stereotypes; demonstrated the positive impact of Western modernization; or fed the complementary fantasies of "obelisques and odalisque."Not only is this wordy; pretentious and an unrelenting diatribe against the West; but we also end up with pseudo-history. Why does the author restrict herself to discussing European colonialism? Her supposed project is to show that mummies were sacred because they were wrapped; and Egyptology (in the guise of white men who she never stops lambasting) unwrapped and desacralized. In a recent history of Heliopolis another author showed that the Islamic invasion had destroyed much of that site. Well the Arab invaders also changed the religion; history; culture and began the subjugation of women in Egypt who had once been the envy of the ancient world for their freedoms. The author ahistorically calls Arabs "indenous Egyptians" and "native" in two different places! This not only shows shes dishonest for neglecting to mention that Egypt had been plundered by Arabs before the white men she hates so much; but it also leaves her reader not even aware that Egypt was invaded by Arabs before the European colonialism. Its as if someone tried to take over Australia and an author called the white Europeans there "native" or "indigenous." If someone did that; wed admit they dont know one damn thing about history. And so we have to say thats the case with this author. So why would she do such pseudo-history? Look no further than the fact that she entered this phony look at the past in a Middle Eastern Studies contest. So now we know her motivation for telling so many lies about the past. Moreover; shes not only given to lying about Arabs being indigenous to Egypt; but in her attempts to rail against white men she actually gets the present wrong as well. On page 161 she claims that "Many adult and distance learning classes are aimed at the same or similar enthusiasts; who are almost exclusively white; middle class; and either middle-aged and above or else; in some cases; younger people seeking a nontraditional route to education." She provides no proof for this and by very definition nobody knows the race; age or other background characteristics of people in these classes. I am a black woman and took part in similar classes while pursuing a traditional PhD for the purposes of getting extra help along the way. Nobody knew anyones background; nor does she. And then this prejudiced; Leftwing; screeching white woman actually goes on the very next page to talk about Afrocentrists WITHOUT REMARKING ABOUT THE FACT THEY ARE LARGELY BLACK. Youre dealing with a man-hating racist here; everything is about color until we talk about Arabs or black people. In modern Egypt the invading Arab population is extrememely color conscious and feels superior for being North African to their southerly black African neighbors. She never deals with modern Egypts ongoing racism because that impinges on her anti-white-man project. Then lets get to some other omissions. Because she spends so much time harping on the fact that early Egyptologists were white men; she cant talk about the fact that today its white women like herself who are in a position of privilege. Yale University has two Egyptologists; one white woman and one white man. UC Berkeleys 2 Egyptologists are both white women. The University of Memphis currently has 5 Egyptologists on staff. Four are white women like her; the other is a gay white man. The entire student body is dominated by young white women. Today in the politics of victimhood women like this white woman take the perks meant for minorities while still benefiting from their race. She never confronts her modern day position of privilege in academia. Most universities have females outpacing males in terms of grades; opportunities; scholarships and degree attainment. She doesnt address this because she retreats to the past of Egypt unless it would tell the truth about the Arab invasion. There are 6 chapters all together entitled "Desecration;" "Revelation" "Mummification;" "Linen;" "Secrecy" and "Sanctity." Only "Linen" and "Mummification" offered something of value to Egyptology and even that was minimal. In all; its 306 pages with footnotes but only about one article worth of information worth ones time. Given the fact that she took 4 or 5 years to write this book by her own account; thats a disgrace. This is just a book for someone who wishes to listen to an SJW rail against white men; but in a completely fabricated pseudo-intellectual fashion riddled with half-truths and sometimes downright disinformation. If you want to learn about mummies you will not do that here. Id suggest Bob Brier for either the beginner or even perhaps a more seasoned reader. Her one thesis that would have been worth exploration was the idea that mummies are essentially humans made into statues but there are other interpretations of mummies and no reason to suppose shes correct for all time periods as even she concedes. You just dont learn much truth here. Its Leftwing claptrap and outright lies.
