Steven Spielberg has fashioned an enviable career as a writer; producer; and director of American motion pictures; winning Academy Awards for Best Direction (Saving Private Ryan; Schindlers List); and for Best Film (Schindlers List). With David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg he founded Dreamworks SKG; already one of the most productive and respected studios in Hollywood. Despite Spielbergs notable successes; however; his films have not avoided controversy. The Films of Steven Spielberg provides for the first time a collection of critical writings by professional film critics about the director and his films; bringing together many articles and reviews scattered in often inaccessible specialist publications and professional journals. The opinions vary from complimentary to critical; but they definitely provide a well-rounded view of the films and the director. Twelve of Spielbergs major box office hits; including Jaws; Raiders of the Lost Ark; E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial; The Color Purple; Empire of the Sun; Jurassic Park; Schindlers List; Amistad; Saving Private Ryan; and Close Encounters of the Third Kind; are discussed in essays that vary in complexity ranging from the heavily theoretical to the more general. This collection of essays; compiled for both film students and professionals in the film industry; attests to the influence of Spielberg and the films that have earned him a significant place in the history of cinema as one of Americas most innovative and culturally important filmmakers.

A weak re-reading of the back of a dusty stack of Photographs; in No particular order.By Max Head-roomLike Racines Decline; so too was my interest in this Picture Book.1. This is not a Book per se; it is a Photo Album... It is a graphic travelogue like sitting in the wings of a room at an elderly Bridge Game; where aging strangers describe; and wax nostalgic through some select photos; in no particular order. Its as if one were recollecting a narrative with an elderly aunt who recalled many romantic and fleeting experiences but forgets all context for any cohesive story to link each rambling thought together.2. This should never be made available to a E-Ink Kindle; as this is a graphic book; and all context is ruined by view on a low-res monochrome E-Ink format.3. This Photo Essay may have begun Semi-Historically; and in a chronology; but it does not follow any pattern and quickly falls like a toothpick house under a Gale Wind of disjointed brambling. One leaves it recalling two or three iconic events; and then soon drifts off to memories of far better things to spend your time with. In Fact I felt betrayed that the book began well; and literally digressed into an occasional reference or description of some random historic image; and nothing more.4. Call your Grandparent or Mother and Father and have a chat; and leave this one in the rack.
