Boys (NHB Modern Plays)

PDF Boys (NHB Modern Plays) by Ella Hickson in Arts-Photography

Description

Rattigans well-loved play about an unpopular schoolmaster who snatches a last shred of dignity from the collapse of his career and his marriage. Twice filmed (with Michael Redgrave and Albert Finney) and frequently revived. Andrew Crocker-Harris wife Millie has become embittered and fatigued by her husbands lack of passion and ambition. On the verge of retirement; and divorce; Andrew is forced to come to terms with the platitude his life has become. Then John Taplow; a previously unnoticed pupil; gives Andrew an unexpected parting gift: a second-hand copy of Robert Brownings translation of Agamemnon - a gift which offers not only a opportunity for redemption; but the chance to gain back some dignity. This edition also contains Harlequinade; a farce about a touring theatre troupe; written to accompany The Browning Version in a double-bill under the joint title; Playbill. The plays are presented with an authoritative introduction; biographical sketch and chronology by Dan Rebellato.

And it shines through. The man IS Del Boy(and Frost; and Pa Larkin and.... and .....and) and we all want him to succeed - and he does - magnificently. One of those people you wish you could meet. The book gets you as near as you ever will be to that.Great read - if youre a fan this will do it for you.Well done (again) Sir David.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful experience.By frangipaniI have;nt quite finished reading this wonderful autobiography. It is well written and full of the humour and brilliance he hasshown in his many series; yet he comes across as a very humbleman.I would imagine it would appeal most to those readers whoare familiar with all his comedy series; as well as the morerecent Inspector Frost series in which he played the aforesaidquite brilliantly.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Candid and cheeky this IS Sir David Jason not Dell BoyBy SascotThis man is an institution. I would even go so far as to suggest hes an integral part of many peoples lives not as Sir David Jason but as the fictitious characters he has portrayed for decades on British television. And so it is that reading his autobiography brings us in touch with who this person really is. It is candid and witty with some startling revelations that somehow just dont fit - scuba diving ????? As we all have; life for Sir David has delved out many downs as well as the ups and he takes us there with him. Genuine affection seeps through the pages of this book which I would recommend for anyone.
