Building Milwaukee City Hall: The Political; Legal and Construction Battles

audiobook Building Milwaukee City Hall: The Political; Legal and Construction Battles by Dennis Pajot in Arts-Photography

Description

First settled by Stephen F. Austins colonists in the early nineteenth century; Colorado County has deep roots in Texas history. Mainly rural and agrarian until late in the twentieth century; Colorado County was a cotton-growing region whose population was about evenly divided between blacks and whites. These life-long neighbors led separate and unequal lives; memories of which still linger today. To preserve those memories; Patsy Cravens began interviewing and photographing the older residents of Colorado County in the 1980s. In this book; she presents photographs and recollections of the last generation; black and white; who grew up in the era of Jim Crow segregation. The folks in Colorado County have engrossing stories to tell. They recall grinding poverty and rollicking fun in the Great Depression; losing crops and livestock to floods; working for the WPA; romances gone wrong and love gone right; dirty dancing; church and faith; sharecropping; quilting; raising children; racism and bigotry; and even the horrific lynching of two African American teenagers in 1935. The Colorado County residents stories reveal an amazing resiliency and generosity of spirit; despite the hardships that have filled most of their lives. They also capture a rural way of life that was once common across the South; but is now gone forever.

Flower PowerBy Elaine LeI decided to read this kindle book because I remember sitting in the grass during P.E. class and making flower crowns by knotting stems together. Needless to say; my makeshift flower crowns did not last. I love flower crowns - I think they are great adornment during the summer at various events such as weddings; wine tastings in wine country; concerts; or whenever you want. As a woman I have a proclivity for flowers.Ms. Doramus does a great job giving you a run down of the general materials you need to make both real flower crowns and faux flower crowns (flowers all year long; ladies!). She also gives you a crash course on what types of flowers are good for what. The pictures in this book are so pretty. It is like you looking at an anthropologie or free people catalog but for flower crowns and hair. Besides being super pretty; the pictures are a great additional tool in this DIY book. As I read the kindle book; I was able to follow Ms. Doramus instructions to make the various types of flower crowns and use the pictures as a guide as well. Ms. Doramus instructions were clear; concise and simple. I cant wait to make a few this summer. Its a feminine and simple adornment that is classic and whimsical.I am going to suggest this book for my friend that is getting married. Itll give us ideas for hair pieces (headbands; crowns; combs; etc.). The book does an excellent job of giving other suggests such as headbands and combs to make the flower crown idea be more of a daily thing. The book also has ideas for adding feathers and other adornments to the flower crowns. The book also has a great selection of different types of flower crowns and flower combs for each season and different occasions. A fun read!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful CrownsBy Elizabeth ElleI decided I wanted to make flower crowns on a bit of a whim after browsing blogs and Instagram. I didnrsquo;t want to buy premade ones- I love crafting; and I loved the idea of making my own! I purchased this book and fell in love. There are wonderful photographs in this book that help you out every step of the way; with suggestions and tips on how to make your flower crowns. I began with the Pretty Pastels Fresh Flower crown and I just loved every second of it. I got so many compliments on my fresh flower crown; and I wanted to wear it forever. This book is broken into seasons- Spring; Summer; Autumn; Winter; and Special Occasions. I love all of them; for any time of the year! I also made a faux gardenia hair comb which is such a good way to add a bit of whimsy to an ordinary outfit. One great thing about this book is that it is easy to customize- although it provides guidelines and instructions; itrsquo;s so easy to change these crowns up to your own preferences. For instance; Irsquo;m currently working on the Under the Sea flower crown. The instructions call for fresh flowers; but it was so easy for me to use faux flowers to make it last longer. I love this book and if yoursquo;re at all interested in making flower crowns; you will too!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It is full of inspiration and easy to follow directionsBy DanieOh my gosh yes to everything in this book!! If you are an avid festival goer; music lover; free spirit or general creative soul - this DIY is a MUST!!! It is full of inspiration and easy to follow directions. I mean; there is honestly a flower crown for every occasion - baby showers; no problem. Do people even do that? I didnt realize it was a thing but def opened up my own eyes on things I can do for upcoming friends baby and bridal showers. There are crowns for very occasion; every season and it is simply - amazing. The book is a great guide as it has super easy instructions and is very clear about what materials you will need. Its GREAT. Highyl recommend this. This book is cheaper then what it costs for a flower crown; putting these together myself will save money and allow me to expand the amount of crowns I have and can afford. Love it!! Thank you!!! I have made a few for friends and they seem to love it. I think this book is going to have to start accompanying them. Its a perfect bridesmaid gift too.
