That may be due to reading the play instead of seeing it produced. It might be significantly more compelling on the stage benefitting from an ensembles creative endeavors. "The Weir" felt like it added up to little more than a bunch of drinkers sitting around telling tall tales. I couldnt make out the dramatic question the playwright was attempting to address. The driving conflict wasnt clear. I couldnt find a protagonist. Where was I supposed to place my sympathies? Why did I care about any of these characters? Where was the fresh revelation? I hoped for a cumulative impact at the end but I arrived at only a sort of dissipation; everyone going their own way without anything or anyone having changed. However; the playwright has stature so Im not overly confident in my assessment. Still; I read a lot of plays and this one; for me anyway; never quite got started.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Simple and fullBy BeaumixA simple fulfilling time with some people gathering together; sharing histories and their pain. Havent seen the play produced; but will definitely see it. Now. Im going to have a short one and read it again...0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great reinforcing Experience!By Katherine LatimerI recently saw the play on Broadway and sought to read it all by myself. The read brought back each character for me that I experienced on stage.I was able to take in all the facets of the roles in a leisurely fashion.Very glad to see/read both versions. First or second do it both ways to live it and keep it with you anytime!
