Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting (Dover Art Instruction)

ePub Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting (Dover Art Instruction) by John F. Carlson in Arts-Photography

Description

Written during Tchaikovskyrsquo;s years as professor at the renowned Moscow Conservatory; this volume presents a clear and thorough introduction to the study of harmony. The great Russian composer expounded upon his views of music while he was in the full flower of his creative powers; offering students a chance to learn the disciplinersquo;s fundamentals from one of its great masters. Out of print for decades and exceedingly rare in its original edition; Tchaikovskyrsquo;s Guide to the Practical Study of Harmony possesses an intrinsic historical interest; yet remains as useful and instructive today as it was a century ago. A complete course in writing music; this excellent manual features numerous examples and exercises. It functions equally well as a classroom text; an adjunct to private instruction; or as a guide to individual musicians.

Since David Bowies death; and a renewed interest in his life;I hope to steer anyone looking for a decent Bowie biography far; far away from this book. There is little to no appreciation of Bowie the artist in this book. Leigh focuses on the most salacious rumors about the man the author could find. Its addle brained; poorly written tripe; composed by a writer in need of paycheck. Not only is this book shallow; the author doesnt even manage to come up with anything new or remotely interesting. Ive heard all these rumors before and at this point they are really boring. This is a really thoughtless book written by a hack. Dont give her your money. Im sorry I did.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Ziggy Played the FieldBy Amanda MIf you want to know about every chick Bowie stuck his "Lance of Love" into in the 70s then this is the book for you. The man is a music legend and I will forever love and respect him; but if this book is true he was quite the man-whore (I wasnt around for the 70s so this is probably old news to many people). However; it seems none of the women interviewed had a bad thing to say about him after falling victim to his womanizing schemes - all commenting in one sense or another about what a gentleman he was. I only give this book 4 stars because; though it was a rather enjoyable and steamy read; there really wasnt anything new in it aside from some sordid details about his sex life. Pretty much all the info and quotes in this book can be found in various articles across the internet; so its basically a nice chronological collection of already published info on his life and career. Aside from detailed descriptions from numerous people about his "massive endowment;" this book offers little insight into his life.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Like 3 stars says; its okay. There must be a better bio though.By Thingfish33This was only semi-enlightening. I wonder if most biographies on Bowie are going to focus as much on who he banged as this one. Not that it wasnt without some interesting information or even all about sex; it just didnt speak much of anything about the music or the songs. I wasnt disappointed as I didnt really know what to expect but mainly being a fan of music I will always hope for the inside scope on a track. There was also a lot of quoting other peoples biographies and overall very few quotes from him. After he marries Iman and is presumed to become faithful the book begins to have less and less to say and only mentions that Hours; Heathen; Reality The Next Day were released and done. Again I did enjoy it but I think there has to be a better biography then this. This was the first biography on Bowie that I have read so I cannot compare it to any others. For now it remains not being a total waste of time but pretty general and left me sot of unsatisfied.
