Kuijken; a flutist; plays exquisitely. Here we meet him as a graceful and engaging teacher; who urges us to play with lively feeling and expression; based on sympathetic; grounded understanding of the style and values of Baroque composers and performers. He points his readers to helpful sources; some first-hand accounts directly from the period; some from research just coming into print; that might easily be overlooked. Im grateful to have read this brief but very helpful book.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Scholarly and practical!By SamI was well aware of this fine musician being a traverso player myself (amateur); but this lends so much depth to the art of playing the instrument that I know I will read it many; many times over.
