Im more of a fan of "The Second Annual Report" and "DOA." But to his credit; the author has done a great job analyzing this album. He goes into detail about every aspect-the artwork; the songs; the reception to the album-and gives a highly readable dissection. Theres new (at least at the time of publication) interviews with all 4 TG members; and his track-by-track commentary is spot-on. It may divulge into places TG fans may not care about or be willing to go to; but his attention to detail is unwavering. Personally; as an old punk who ventured out and discovered "industrial music"; I relate completely to his intro piece to this book.Unfortunately there is precious little TG reading material available out there at a decent price-do a search for "Wreckers Of Civilization" and youll see what I mean-and as such this book is a great find for a good price. My ONLY complaint is that I feel he should have covered an earlier album. "20 Jazz Funk Greats" remains for me an ok album by a great band. But the passion he devotes to this album more than makes up for its deficiencies.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Thorough critique and analysisBy Random GuyHaving read a few of the books in this series; this is far and away the best written Ive seen. Its an in depth track by track examination that opens out a lot of thought on the layers and limitations of each. The effort gone into primary sources of the artists themselves is impressive and the aspect of the book that makes it really outstanding.I was especially drawn into the discussion on the artwork as critique of the audience; where; as with Michael Hanekes film Funny Games; songs like Persuasion and Convincing People struggle to walk a fine line between artistic statement and hypocritical exploitation of subject matter. The trivia gem that Cosey appears briefly in the nightclub scene to Sylvesters extended video for Mighty Real was worth the price of admission alone. Its that sort of attention to detail you cant put a price on but the publisher did and thank goodness it was so reasonable.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I Give It 33â…“ Stars!By M Roy ClarkOne of the best volumes in the whole 33â…“ series; Drew Daniel (one half of Matmos and writer for Pitchfork) paints a fascinating portrait of a singular album and an uncompromising acts attempts at marketability in the Postpunk era.
