First let me say that National Geographic is one of the best books when it comes to learning about animals and cultures and this book is very similar without the high cost. NG; just like this book; has a way of creating unique little kids books by incorporating amazing photos instead of hand drawn illustrations or shapes or just words. That alone makes a huge difference to a child learning about animals and trying to keep the information they learned. The "Big Book of Animals: Childrens Book of Animal Fun Facts" is no exception. It allows my child to learn about animals such as the Sea Turtle; Sharks; Koala and many more in such a way that it captivates him to want to learn. It is not just words on a page; there are images that intertwine with those words. There are bright; brilliant colors which draws the childrens attention to start. Then they can learn fun; neat facts and they dont even realize they are learning. It tells you about where they live; what they eat; they type of species they are categorized as and how they have babies rather by birth or laying eggs. The text is very organized dividing the sections by "Ocean;" "Forest" and "Savanna." It is set up in a way that parents can engage with their children and ask questions. The fact that it is a Kindle book means that it will last forever. There is no fear of tearing pages or binders coming apart. As long as you have a Kindle reader; it will be available. The colorful text boxes and insets around the photos add an interesting flair. I really enjoyed the fact that the author was able to incorporate pictures behind these text boxes without distorting the text or the image. Highly recommended for the proper target audience of course. In case it isnt obvious by the cover; it is meant for younger children although; my son is 8 and he truly enjoys it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not so Big book but okBy MayaA nice book with a lot of great pictures and a lot of "fun facts" and information about the animals. I found thatthe use of the scientific words for the kind of food the animals eat would make this book one that could beread to children if you explained what the big words mean. A lot of humans do not know what a herbivoreor omnivore is. To say an animal is omnivorous to a child is a bit silly. Just say the animal will eat meat orvegetables and fruit. The layout of the pictures and the words over them was not that great either. I wouldhave preferred a corner of the page blank for the writing rather than covering a picture with words. My kidsthought so too! They enjoyed looking at the pictures; but no one wanted to examine it further. Another bookI read to them was put on their Kindles so they could read it for themselves and use it for a book report inone case. This one they liked but no one asked to have it sent to their Kindle. I dont really know what theircriteria is for books they want on their Kindles. but this one did not make the cut! There were a lot of interestingfacts and bits of information that I liked. The habitats were interesting to me and the way they had theirbabies. Overall; a good book for facts and information about animals and nice pictures.I received this book free in exchange for my honest review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Well organized; fun pictures; and good informationBy Sam RThis 50-page book is a good source of information on animals of the world for young readers ndash; from the zebras and lions in the savannah to sea turtles and sharks in the ocean. The ldquo;Big Book of Animalsrdquo; is nicely organized into habitats of the world with the animals that are found in each area. As a teacher and mom; I would suggest it as a read-aloud for 2nd or 3rd graders and their parents. The format lends itself to having a child read the simpler overview parts for each animal while the parent reads the accompanying in-depth sections. For example; the pages on each animal include both a simple section of a few sentences of larger text along with a more in-depth study of what they eat; where they live; and how many babies they have.I especially like the pictures that appeal to kids and their parents alike. The up-close photographs portray animals in their natural habitats. Some favorite new facts my family learned from this book include that koalas have fingerprints like humans; parrots prefer a life partner; owls in a group are called a parliament; and bears can smell from miles away!I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
