I was delighted to find this book availableBy Judy S. HallstromI read an article a couple years ago in American Crafts on the activities in the internment camps during WW2. I was delighted to find this book available. It is wonderful. Excellent illuststrations and fascinating text. Most intersting to me was the point that at the end of the war; these unfortunate people returned to their former jobs and did not continue to pursue their art. I was also impressed with how important creativity was to releiving some of the pain and anxiety they must have felt at being removed from their homes simply because they were Japanese. I promise you will enjoy looking at the art and will be amazed by the artifacts created from scraps; and you will be saddened by their plight even as you appreciate their work. A "make the best" of a difficult situation and find beauty in the worst of circumstances is a good reminder for everyone.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
