Best Blues Instruction on the Planet!By Minnesott SailorI researched for a long time and decided to try John Ganapes Blues You Can Use series of instruction books hoping that it would be a good resource for advancing my blues guitar skills. My needs were met in spades with the series. I have the Blues You Can Use lead book; the rhythm book and the chord book. All contain phenominal instruction. The exercises begin easy yet quickly become challenging. Each lesson seems to build upon the other; quite ingenious. The chord book presents excellent instruction into chord theory and construction. Whod thought that a little ole blues book could do so. It hasnt just taught me how to play a chord; its taught me the language of chords. I find myself being able to construct; extend and alter chords on my own without a chord chart and a lot of searching. It took a lot of work and hours of devotion; but I can talk with my guitar through chords. The exercises were fantastic and I firmly believe if you master those; learn the chords; the majors; minors; the 7ths; the triads; their inversions and play them all over the neck-whenever you perform; people will be wowed and amazed. In my opinion; its all about chords; knowing chord inversions; chord substitutions; passing chords and they laying it all down with rhythm. In conjunction with the Ganapes Rhythm Guitar Course; Ive become a strong asset on stage and other guitarists just love my comping; my passing chords and rhythm. It is becoming second nature. There needs to be more great rhythm guitar players. To me; I revisit this book from time to time and to me; thats a mark of a great book. With all the multimedia we have nowadays this could look like old and obsolete method; but is not.If you are like me are looking for the key tutorial for blues guitar; give first a try to this book; if you dont play guitar at all I recommend you to start with BLUES YOU CAN USE. That would be my recomendationWhy four stars and not five? Just because there is no CD; I just can dedicate 10 to 30 minutes to practice three times a week; so having the audio support while driving it will very helpful. HollandHaving finished the first "Blues you can use" book; I figured that Id give this book a try - just to learn some chord theory; if anything. Being a blues guitar enthusiast for about 2 years now; I have only the basic music theory knowledge. Im learning a ton from this book; its material is laid out and explained in a way that is interesting easy to understand. The exercises provide a way to use what youve learned; and play the methods until the "muscle-memory" starts to take effect. I dont have much to list for details; as Im only about halfway through this one; but I am really enjoying this book and learning a great deal. I recommend this one to any blues guitar enthusiast out there - its well worth the money!
