Von Pablo Picasso erzauml;hlt man; er hauml;tte zu zeichnen angefangen; noch bevor er sprechen konnte. Geboren wurde er in Maacute;laga; und hier verbrachte er auch die ersten zehn Jahre seines Lebens. Von seinem Vater lernte Pablo die Grundlagen der akademischen Malkunst. Er besuchte eine Kunstschule in Barcelona und schrieb sich 1897 an der Kunstakademie in Madrid ein. Noch keine 18 Jahre alt; erreichte Picasso den Houml;hepunkt seiner kuuml;nstlerischen Rebellion und verwarf nicht nur die anauml;mische Auml;sthetik der akademischen Kunst; sondern auch den prosaischen Realismus und schloss sich den Modernisten; also den nonkonformistischen Kuuml;nstlern und Schriftstellern an; die Sabarteacute;s als die ldquo;Elite des katalanischen Denkensrdquo; bezeichnete. Picasso beschrauml;nkte sich 1899 und 1900 zunauml;chst auf Motive; die fuuml;r ihn die ldquo;endguuml;ltige Wahrheitrdquo; bedeuteten: die Vergauml;nglichkeit des Lebens und die Unvermeidbarkeit des Todes. Seine fruuml;hen Werke; die ldquo;blaue Epocherdquo; (1901-1904) waren auf blauen Ton gestimmt und von einer Reise durch Spanien sowie den Tod seines Freundes Casagemas beeinflusst. Er uuml;bersiedelte 1904 nach Paris; wo sich 1905 bis 1907 eine neue Phase abzeichnet; die peacute;riode rose; erkennbar an einem frouml;hlicheren Stil mit reicherer Farbskala;ensp;vor allem Orange und Rosa. Wauml;hrend eines Sommeraufenthalts 1906 in Gosol (Spanien) nahm der weibliche Akt eine uuml;berragende Bedeutung fuuml;r ihn ein. Er reduzierte die Formen radikal auf geometrische Strukturen und zeigte den weiblichen Kouml;rper auf unpersouml;nliche Art: die ldquo;Fraurdquo; als Konzept. Exemplarisch fuuml;r diesen Stilwandel ist das ldquo;skandalouml;serdquo; im Winter und Fruuml;hling 1907 geschaffene Werk Les Demoiselles drsquo;Avignon. Wauml;hrend sich Picassos auml;sthetischer Wandel 1907 auf die afrikanische Kunst zuruuml;ckfuuml;hren lauml;sst; wird danach der Einfluss Ceacute;zannes entscheidend. Dies bezieht sich in erster Linie auf die einem konstruktiven System unterworfene rauml;umliche Gestaltung der Leinwand als einer komponierten Einheit. Nach der Bombardierung von Guernica im Jahr 1937 schuf Picasso sein gleichnamiges Gemauml;lde als Symbol gegen den Terror des Krieges. Sein Spauml;twerk zeigt eine Vielfalt von Stilen; seine Werke sind bunter; ausdrucksstauml;rker und optimistischer. In einer Folge von Radierungen nimmt er die zentralen Themen seines Werks noch einmal auf: Akte; Zirkus; Stierkampf. Neben Bildern schafft er Unmengen von figuuml;rlichen Keramiken und auch plastische Werke. Er stirbt 1973 in seiner Villa in Mougins.

Some great details; lots of things overlookedBy tenorsax1This is an important fact based account of many aspects of the Slingerland Drum Co. but should not be considered as a guide toward purchasing or evaluating the originality of Slingerland dums nor; I believe is that the intent. Cook does a very good job of establishing the importance of both drums and drummers in the evolution of post turn of the century popular music from ragtime through jazz; swing and onto the rock and roll years. Unfortunately because there are so few compendiums of the instrument to draw from ; it is difficult not to use the book as guide to vintage slingerland drums and here is where the book falls dismally short. The concentration on snare drums becomes mind numbing after a short period and that one aspect dominates so much of the technical detail that other aspects of drums kits suffer from the lack of detail- there is very little about when certain construction aspects began to change and almost nothing about tom mounts; bass drum hardware ( such as spurs and cymbal mounts etc..) some useful info on finishes and wraps but too much about the obscure endorsees throughout the years. Still a useful guide if only for the snare drum info but do not buy this thinking you will get detailed info on all aspects of a drum kit - particularly if your goal is to use the book as a reference before investing in or restoring vintage drums0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book on Slingerlands!By hotchops57These are my favorite drums of all time! I love Slingerlands and feel badly that they arent made anymore. I am now buying up shells and repairing them to make a complete set. This book has helped me find the right series and dates for the drums I want. I would recommend this book to all who love Slingerlands!
