One of the problems for intermediate students is that they want to stretch their wings; but we need to get them pieces they can learn rather quickly so they can enjoy the skills they have worked so hard to develop and build their confidence in them. Yes; we continue to stretch their capabilities and move them along towards becoming more advanced musicians. But popular music has a few benefits. They know the tunes and if they dont their parents do. And it makes everyone happy to hear their child play something they already know and understand how it should sound. Classical music is often a new world to the family; so this kind of music is a nice addition to their repertoire. And since it is generally simpler in the musical resources it uses; it is easier for them to see the patterns in the harmonies and to build their understanding of how keys and chord progressions work with melodies.I do not know who Phillip Keveren is; but I admire his ability to make this music just demanding enough and still sound like something quite nice. He helps the student feel like he or she is doing something quite special; and they are in their sphere of musical understanding; and I thank him for this book. I will likely buy more of his materials in the future.Well done.Reviewed by Craig Matteson; Saline; MI2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Heres the rest of the songs in the bookBy lathamdmI could never get the book preview to display; so I wasnt sure what other songs were in this book. Thankfully; listed some of the songs in the description...enough that I knew I would like the book. Here are the remaining songs in the book in case you have trouble viewing the preview also:Everythings Alright (Jesus Christ Superstar)I am the Starlight (Starlight Express)No Matter What (Whistle Down the Wind)Old Deuteronomy (Cats)Our Kind of Love (The Beautiful Game)Tell Me on a Sunday(Song and Dance)Whistle Down the Wind (Whistle Down the Wind)On the inside (but not on the cover where it should be); it says that the difficulty is late intermediate/early advanced. I think that is accurate. The pieces are arranged alphabetically in the book; making them easy to locate quickly. The pages are large and easy to read.I like Phillip Keverens arrangements; and I have purchased a lot of his books. This level of difficulty is perfect for the amount of time that I have available to spend on them; but may be a little simple if you are planning on these pieces for presentation. I just wanted them for personal enjoyment. could greatly improve their presentation of their books with better quality information; particularly difficulty level and a full listing of songs.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Andrew Lloyd Webber Solos: The Philip Keveren SeriesBy Barbara RichardsThese arrangements are too simplified to do credit to the beauty of Webbers compositions. This publication should be listed as moderately difficult or Simplified..
