I would definitely recommend the paper version; as on the eBook youd probably be zooming in and out a lot. Unfortunately; theres no introduction to put this book in historical context; so you may find some things confusing. First; this book was printed back when the "long s" was stilled used in English; which looks a lot like a lowercase f. For example; "so" would be spelled "Å¿o." This can make reading the instructions a little confusion. The other gotcha is that measurements are in minutes (m); which you might first assume were meters (m). The book follows a long tradition of dividing the diameter of the base column into 60 minutes; and then measuring all of the components of the rest of the order into minutes. So what youd need to do is figure how how big you want to build; and then calculate your own; personal "minute". From there you can calculate the correct size of everything in the order. This book is a good introduction; but the 225 year old directions are a bit hard to follow; so maybe not the best for a beginner.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A great reprint of one of William Pains architectural booksBy David ArbogastThis is a great reprint of one of William Pains architectural books; which served as a pivotal development of the architectural pattern books which blossomed in America with writers such as Asher Benjamin and Minard LaFever; followed by a host of others. This book has relatively large amounts of text relative to the actual drawings. The drawings focus on the Classical orders; which were the fountainhead of Georgian architecture. The book was intended not for the dilettante but for those engaged in construction. As such; it provides an interested counterpoint to elegant archtiectural works such as those by William Chambers.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. lots of goodBy mathmominteresting we are remodeling a victorian. lots of good ideas
