An important 18th-century instruction book; Couperins The Art of Playing the Harpsichord contains valuable information on technique; fingering; phrasing; ornamentation and keyboard performance style. Halfords scholarly introduction includes a biographical sketch of the composer; a thorough discussion of French Baroque ornamentation and a useful summary of Couperins style. The eight preludes used by Couperin to illustrate his approach are musical gems rarely found in other collections.

I do nature and landscape and work almost entirely in BW; shoot RAW; use D7100 with FX lens----take advantage of 22 mgs and the sweet spot of FX lens; to me the best of worlds; and do well in competitions. So if those credentials mean anything; I would suggest buying the book. What I particularly like is the size. I always carry it in my case when traveling; and; otherwise; in the car and with me on occasions when waiting for my wife; or at dental or other such appointments when I can take advantage of free time to learn something from this book. His discussion on shooting techniques and post processing is among the best I have read. And; in that regard; I probably own every book on BW thats worth having. He does a good job of explaining what BW can show a viewer which otherwise is lost in color photography; that and how to squeeze the very most out of pixels; especially on conversion techniques and how to use color channels in photoshop to make the most of the remaining but unseen influence and effects of color left in the pixels after having converted to BW. I believe his use of grammar is perhaps he very best of any writer on photography; clear; succinct and yet; in-depth. I have found the size convenient; and content at the highest levels of the best writing on black and white photography.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Help For The BW Inclined Digital PhotographerBy David B. ThomasThis little book is very useful for the digital photographer who intends to shot for and process RAW files as BW images. Freeman takes the posture of a highly experienced working photographer and avoides most to the metaphysics that photography writers tend to fill space with. While this is not a software manual it is quite up to date regarding tools for processing images to BW as well as producing prints. It is now a part of my field kit.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent introduction to BW processingBy J. Norman ReidWhile it doesnt cover all issues; especially details about alternative software packages; it is strong on adjustment objectives; including hue adjustments; that the photographer should experiment with. Ive read a number of books on BW photo processing; and this is one of the best.
