Designing Steel Structures for Fire Safety

Description

Renowned American photographer Jack Watson traveled to Cuba on a legal humanitarian visa. He chronicled his journey with breathtaking; and often heartbreaking; images of the Cuban people; cites; and countryside. Watson describes his visit:ldquo;I had stepped back in time 50 years mdash; this was my first impression of Cuba. My journey; which began in Havana; consisted of traveling by bus; pedicab; coco cab; 1957 Chevy; and foot. I was here primarily to help the Cuban people; but giving away medicine; vitamins; and money felt like using aspirin to treat the plague. I covered hundreds of miles; traveling in an oval-shaped route with stops at Cienfuegos; the Bay of Pigs; Trinidad; and Varadero Beach in the province of Matanzas mdash; and then back to Havana. As the title of this book indicates; this is an unauthorized journal of photographs taken during my visit. While I certainly share similar and compassionate thoughts about humanitarian aid toward people in need; I felt a greater calling in compiling the images for this book. If one picture is indeed worth thousands of words; then this is an encyclopedic portrayal of the real; hidden Cuba. This is not a travel guide; Irsquo;ll leave that for the tourism industry. It is; however; a behind-the-scenes look at the Cuba that tourists never see.I have tried to present a wide portrayal of images that will allow the viewer to see all aspects of Castrorsquo;s Cuba. You cannot look at the glitz alone and make logical conclusions about this country; while there is some beauty; there is more decay. While the country is admittedly a communist enclave; when looking at these images; one has to ask if this form of government was the right choice for the Cuban people. You be the judge mdash; the story is in your hands.rdquo;Atlantic Publishing is a small; independent publishing company based in Ocala; Florida. Great book should be required for the heavy user.By TomWThere are topics in thes book; like slide shows; that are covered better than I have been able to find in any other book; if they are covered at all. This is a must have resource!15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Hastily updated from previous editionBy Granny BTheres a lot of good information in this book; but the organization is difficult to follow at times. The general workflow boxes are helpful; but the directions are often vague. You have to search around on the crowded pages to find some specifics. Also; the directions are not always complete. For example; on page 311; the author tells how to flip text from one side of a path to the other. Nowhere does he remind the "student" that the text needs to be selected in order to accomplish this task. This book appears to be a hastily prepared version based on earlier editions. As the comments reported; the sample photos are labeled for pages in an earlier edition. Given the amount of information in the various sections; I would like to have had more practice photos. After going though a little over half the text; I have yet to find a symbol for web content. The associated web page given in the introduction takes the user to Elements 10 info. Apparently; there werent enough changes in the edition to warrant a real update on the webpage; but if one is spending good money for a new edition; the information in it should be complete and accurate --including the websites!I puchased this book after seeing some of the authors videos in various places offering tutorials on Elements 11; but for those who like to work along with the book; the text is disappointing. One would have to be pretty familiar with Elements in order to complete some of the tutorials. If youre not already familiar with Elements; you may be better off with the Missing Manual or the Classroom in a Book.
