The title is very misleading; "step by step" lighting. There is good overall information in the book but its more of a pose guide than a "how to" set up studio lighting guide. The book has good advice but there are only 2 pages in the book (108 109) that ACTUALLY SHOW you the "how to" of setting up the lighting. The rest of the book is just pictures (very good pictures) of the models and a text explanation. It doesnt show you the where or how to put what lights where. Its more like; buy my book; Ill show you my great photos but I wont show you exactly how I did them. I can go to any photog in my area for that. "75 Portraits" from Herman Rodriguez is a much better "step by step" guide.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good book for startersBy Milford HarrisVery infomative book for anyone wanting to learn proper studio lighting. He explains everything very well using several different types of lighting. What I love about his technigue is that you do not fell like you have to purchase $10;000 in studio lighting to equal his results. He teaches you in a way that I have not seen before and that is to evaluate your subject and choose proper lighting to get the best picture. Every person is different and the subject of the photgraph changes so lighting must change to suit what the client wants and what the persons body will allow. You may have a woman that wants something for thier spouse or the family or work. Each reason for the shoot changes the perspective of the lighting to obtain the proper photo for want the person wants and what is appropriate. I love this book much more then the Master Lighting guide by Christopher Gray. That book is ok but he is too technical. he meters everything then uses 100 different lights to get his effect.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. really good book for studio photographers that contains useful advisesBy Oleksiy YefremenkoThis books for those people who wants to improve their skills in making good studio portraits. It contains detailed advises how to shoot subjects with various facial features and body styles; how to improve your photography business. This book introduce you in to so called corrective lighting. Author shares with his long time experience and offers his own style of shooting; which is quite different from the standard styles that you can meet usually in most other books. For the beginners; i would recommend to read standard studio lighting theory in order fill importance of authors advises in this book. I would recommend it to read for everyone.
