Used with our public high school English Language Learners - EXTREMELY helpful!By Kelli DunhamI work in NYC public high school with a high population of English Language Learner students. We use this book with our lunchtime International Club for new arrivals and its been SO SO SO helpful. I like the practical ideas and the exercises but I also appreciate that the author really understands the difficulties of making something happen within a bureaucracy; it really made have faith in the rest of what she says. Telling stories helped our new students realize they have something very special to contribute to our school community and it has made a huge difference in their academic and social life. I feel really lucky to have found this book!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. You can use this book as a step-by-step guide for starting a storytelling club or teaching a storytelling class to students in grades 4 and up. The lessons are highly interactive for students. Teachers; Librarians; and StorytellersBy Janet GlantzI just finished reading Karen Chacersquo;s book; ldquo;Story by Story.rdquo; As a person that has coached Youth Storytellers; I found this book to be an excellent model of getting started and also an inspiring model for storytellers; teachers and librarians that are currently working with groups. I loved all of the activities. The ldquo;Applauserdquo; and ldquo;Smilerdquo; awards she passed out on Festival Night were quite ingenious. They really gave the students a model of what storytelling looks like that they could refer to in the future.Janet Glantz; Storyteller; and retired Childrenrsquo;s Librarian
