Disney His Worlds

ePub Disney His Worlds by Alan Bryman in Arts-Photography

Description

This work provides an overview of the Disney organization; in particular the theme parks and their significance for contemporary culture. The author examines topics such as Walt Disneys life and how his biography has been constructed; the Disney Company in the years after his death and various writings about the Disney theme parks. He raises important issues about the parks such as: whether they are harbringers of postmodernism; the significance of consumption at the parks; and the representation of past and future. The discussion of theme parks links with the presentation of Disneys biography and his organization by showing how central economic and business considerations have been in their development and how the significance of these considerations is typically marginalized in order to place an emphasis on fantasy and magic.

Comprehensive Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience and its Significance in PerformanceBy Dr. Laurence RawThis book offers a comprehensive introduction to understand the relationship between cognitive studies; theatre and performance studies; and how such studies challenge Brechtian ideas of performance; while helping to enrich Stanislavskian approaches to acting. The various contributors invite aspiring actors to approach a text like a musical score; with each word and phrase involving a particular gesture or inflection; cumulatively speaking; this helps to create characters whose behavioral modes change at every tick and turn. Just like our imaginations; which veer from one subject to another from moment to moment; so actors should try to recreate that experience while portraying a character on stage. This is not Method acting - i.e. trying to work out rationally what a character is thinking and feeling and finding a gesture for it - but a kind of acting that is both intellectual and emotional. Highly recommended.
