A must-have for anyone looking to tell a story too big to squeeze into a single book/movieBy Heidi NemeczBefore I read and applied the process described in this book I had a lot of primordial story ooze lying around in notes on my computer and in the recesses of my mind--about ten years of them. After reading his macro/micro/nano story and fence post concept I was able to convert ten thousand years of world story into something I could actually sit down and write. The process outlined in this book allowed me to take that ooze and put flesh and bone on it so that the story lives and breaths. Ive read a few structure books; (James Scott Bells Plot and Structure and Revision and Editing are some of my favorites in that department) as well as genre specific books like How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy by Orson Scott Card. I can say definitively that this book has helped my storytelling more than those books. The results speak for themselves: an entire world outline pounded out in less than four weeks; after over ten years of backstory development. Houston nails it out the gate by making sure you have a reason to tell your sweeping story before you blunder through hundreds of pages and potentially years of writes and rewrites. When I finally get my Space Opera turned Fantasy in print Houston Howards name will definitely be in the acknowledgements.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Really Stinkin GoodBy Josh MolinaMake Your Story Really Stinkin Big is a vast and comprehensive guide to begin building transmedia worlds that last. The book urges you to to roll up your sleeves and start thinking in new ways that you wouldve never thought possible. Houston not only gives you the tools to make your story flow but the book passionately empowers you to get off of your couch and begin the creative process and the creative thinking of getting out and doing it for yourself. If youre a story teller or even just enjoy reading i highly recommend you read this book to give you a different perspective on how to take a story and make it really stinkin big. Houston definitely took all the complicated parts of story telling and made it easily understandable to anyone. As i mentioned early i would highly recommend this book and take a look at the creative process of story telling!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Im convinced that applying Howards approach to my ventures will result in success. The book if full of interesting ideas; compelling graphics; and smart analogies that held my attention and encouraged me to push my work to new heights.
