This collection contains 208 of Dores finest illustrations for Ariostos magnificent epic poem; painstakingly reproduced from a beautifully printed 19th century German edition. The illustrations range from brilliant quick sketches to highly finished and shaded studies; many of which convey an incomparable feeling of metaphysical gloom. Against this stark backdrop; a panorama of jousting knights; damsels in distress; heroic deeds; romantic interludes; and mystical events comes to life under Doreacute;s exuberant pen style.

"Renting" prices for books should be less.9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Curious about architecture?By MelarkyI purchased this as a textbook; but after reading it cover-to-cover I would absolutely recommend it for the layperson with a curiousity about architecture. It explains in not-too-much detail the basic concepts of architecture; without overwhelming the reader with technical jargon (and for the little jargon that is included; there is a nice glossary in the back). I never thought an overview of the materials used to build structures through the last few centuries would be this interesting; nor a discussion of how important light actually is in a space. If you can find it for cheap; I say it would make a great gift for the adult or (even high schooler) with a budding interest in architecture!
