Description

Frustrating; nerve-wracking; job-winning or job-losing; flawed yet necessary - auditioning is a maddening business for everyone involved. The people behind the audition desk are looking for a killer audition (often under tremendous pressure); but most of the auditionees walk into the room feeling nervous; unprepared; and unable to control their own performance. Although the idea of creating winning performance strategies is common in business and sports studies; no one has ever really attempted to bring the psychology of creating a winning performance to a book on auditioning. Drawing on some fascinating; cutting-edge research into how the brain copes and responds in high-stress situations; Mastering the Audition looks closely at the effects of fear; at our flawed ability to assess or really know ourselves; at what really drives us; and at what it really takes to master the audition experience. Applicable to all areas of performing; including reality television; musicals; stage; film and commercials; this book helps you hone your performing skills and develop the mental toughness that can keep you going through the inevitable ups and downs of the audition process. Where other books advise you to be confident and be prepared; Mastering the Audition tells you exactly HOW.

Johnston"Sustainable Communities" is a sort of participant observer case study; a brag sheet; and an empirically based if ideologically driven approach towards theory-building and implementation. However described; it has a point of view that is worth considering (e.g.; a broad and inclusive concept of economic development) and an abundance of helpful; practitioner-based insights about what it takes to get a long-term vision implemented. Clearly the authors are proud of what their small city has accomplished over the past 30 years. On the other hand; there is way more descriptive detail than needed (or wanted) to make it a helpful and insightful book on economic development. But worth a read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I was particularly interested in the goal for "farm to table" being a realistic 5 to 10%. I also found the philosophy for success based on positive actions rather than on what was wrong refreshing.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Read this if you are a fan of Bernie SandersBy CustomerIf you are a serious politico or a fan of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders; you have to read this book. It is an inside view on how Burlington; Vermont became one of the most livable cities in the country under a progressive administration. The book is geared more towards policy wonks interested in replicating the many sustainable development initiatives created during Bernies tenure; but it will offer any politico many interesting avenues of research to explore or exploit in the name of moving progressive initiatives forward. It is an excellent survey for any academic setting involving economics; public policy; community development; planning or politics as it balances concrete how to policy data within a unique administrative context. People interesting positive change in their own communities will find an incredible amount of valuable information and contacts to act upon and get excited about. I strongly recommend this for anyone seriously interested in moving sustainable practices forward.
