Ecological Numeracy: Quantitative Analysis of Environmental Issues

PDF Ecological Numeracy: Quantitative Analysis of Environmental Issues by Robert A. Herendeen in Arts-Photography

Description

Master the fundamental math skills necessary to quantify and evaluate a broad range of environmental questions. Environmental issues are often quantitative--how much land; how many people; what amount of pollution. Computer programs are useful; but there is no substitute for being able to use a simple calculation to slice through to the crux of the problem. Having a grasp of how the factors interact and whether the results make sense allows one to explain and argue a point of view forcefully to diverse audiences. With an engaging; down-to-earth style and practical problem-solving approach; Ecological Numeracy makes it easy to understand and master basic mathematical concepts and techniques that are applicable to life-cycle assessment; energy consumption; land use; pollution generation; and a broad range of other environmental issues. Robert Herendeen brings the numbers to life with dozens of fascinating; often entertaining examples and problems. Requiring only a moderate quantitative background; Ecological Numeracy is a superb introduction for advanced undergraduate students in environmental science; planning; geography; and physical and natural sciences. It is also a valuable professional resource for environmental managers; regulators; and administrators.

Review

GreatBy Sarah HawkinsonThis book is great and very helpful. im using it in my MFA -advanced perspective for illustrators- For me theory is easy to read; but compared to other liturature on perspective this book is much more condusive for learning. If you dont have an easy time reading theory this may not be the book for you- It has well sized technichal illustrations for such a small book and they are appropriate and congruent with the language of the book. I have really enjoyed studying with this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. but it presents the basic theory very clearly with good suggestions about how to use the theoryBy MythicmanThis is a classic. Not organized as a modern educational book would be organized; but it presents the basic theory very clearly with good suggestions about how to use the theory; although not a lot of complicated drawings. Definitely should be on the shelf of any artist.2 of 4 people found the following review helpful. No illustrations in Kindle versionBy T. W. AshworthJust downloaded the free Kindle version; and like previous review no illustrations. Makes a book on drawing fairly useless; if not completely so. Text refers to non-existant examples.
