The book is written well and will entice young listeners with the speed facts and their imagination; while young readers are provided lots of familiar words and others to challenge their reading skills and articulation of words. The one thing that resulted in the docking of a star (would have rated it a five) is the animal speed is mostly written in kilometers (km) with not all pages displaying the miles per hour (mph) conversion for readers who more closely relate to mph versus km. This one small oversight does slow down the reading process because our child is very inquisitive and wants to know how fast is that really; so we stop reading to convert the km to mph and then re-read the entire page again; which does take a little extra effort. If the publisher would add this one simple detail; this book is five stars all day long. Despite the km/mph; we have read this book many times as it is enjoyed that much and its fun to hear our child is retaining what is read and learning fun facts in the process. Overall Great Book ! This book was received either free or at a reduced rate in exchange for my honest review and opinion. Even though there is the conversion from km/mph; I would still get this book again for our child. It was a very quick and honestly dull read; because it didnt feel like "cool facts" or anything... it mostly read as a statistics book; saying "Here is an animal. Here is how fast it can go." Sometimes they added "It can go this fast for this long" or "Thats faster than this other animal." Unless youre looking at a kid just obsessed with speed; this isnt going to be very interesting.Also; it uses a lot of vocabulary that kids may neither be familiar with; nor interested in learned.I think it read more like a powerpoint that a middle schooler put together for a report on animals.I will say; though; I was tickled to read the otherwise strangely ultra-specific information about the horse speeds on the second page. The record set that they mentioned was made while I was working at that exact race track. What a silly coincidence! However; that does make this book dated if the record is beaten.This book would be good for a kid to read quickly on a long car ride; but it wouldnt be fun even to sit with them and read it because it is rather redundant.
