Escultura (Spanish Edition)

PDF Escultura (Spanish Edition) by Johann Gottfried Herder in Arts-Photography

Description

This comprehensive new three-volume guide to the early art and artists of Ohio is a compendium of hard-to-find information. The result of more than twelve years of research in community archives; newspapers; business directories; census returns; genealogical records; and manuscripts; Artists in Ohio; 1787-1900 is the most ambitious and complete attempt ever made to document the states artistic origins and growth. The authors have uncovered and remedied innumerable gaps and erros in standard reference works. They have also brought to light new information about thousands of forgotten men and women; once well-known in their communities; who achieved success in either the fine arts or the decorative and "practical" arts of photography; ornamental penmanship; tombstone carving; china painting; illustrating; cartooning; and the execution of panoramas and theatrical scenery. More than 13;000 entries are filled with factual details that will be indispensable to art scholars; genealogists; museum professionals; and historians; as well as to private and institutional collectors of American paintings; sculpture; prints; and photographs; and anyone with an interest in the local and regional history of the nineteenth-century Midwest. Each entry is documented; cross-referenced; and back up by two bibliographies and an appendix devoted to art organizations; schools; major expositions; and collaborative works.

It will take many years for me to get around to mastering just a few of her clever and stylish designs here; but she is inspiring as all get out.9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Must-have for any sock libraryBy A SoldierCookie A; well-known for her complex and stunning sock designs; has hit a home run with her first book of patterns. As other reviewers have mentioned; the technique section in the front of the book is an intensive course in sock construction; modification; and design. Especially interesting were the sections on transitioning between stitch patterns and modifying your favorite stitch patterns for use on socks. At more than 50 pages; this section alone is worth the books price.Of course; the meat of the book is the 15 meticulously written patterns for both men and women. Lace; cables; raised stitches; and even Xs and Os are all incorporated with Cookie As signature polish. Even my husband; whose interest in socks (and knitting) is minimal; requested a pair of the mirror-image sprial Rick socks when he spotted them. The only complaint I have; and it is minor; is that the socks are knit at a rather loose gauge; from 30-32 stitches per 4 inches for most patterns; which produces a fabric that does not last as long; particularly if one uses the finer indie sock yarns like Wollmeise and Sundara; both of which give optimal wear and stitch definition at 36-40 stitches per 4 inches; in my experience. At least with the information in the design section; I should be well-equipped to modify the patterns!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Worth buyingBy JessicaThe patterns in here are lovely; fun; and inventive--just what any sock knitting aficionado would expect from Cookie A. There is a variety of styles to choose from-- whether your favorite knitting involves lace; cables; or simply knit/purl textures; theres something here for you. It should be noted; however; that there are no colorwork patterns; and all the socks are cuff-down. Cookie makes her case for prefering cuff-down to toe-up; but it would be nice to see her step outside her comfort zone in a book focusing on innovation. The more interesting portion of the book is the section that describes methods of designing your own sock; using even challenging elements; (ie patterns that slant one way or the other). The photos of techniques and projects are large and sharp enough to see useful detail; and all are inviting to the eye. There are errata to be dealt with; however. So; if you buy this; be sure to visit Interweaves website and download the corrections before starting to knit a pattern.
