Until now there have been only a few old; poor-quality choices at high prices. I ordered this inexpensive book; just published; without high hopes. I was wrong! The book contains more than 80 full-color; full-page plates and dozens of half and quarter-page full-color plates; exquisitely reproduced so that the fine details are clear. It also contains Shishkins drawings; sketches; and photographs along with a well written text. This is a must-have book for art lovers; artists and scholars.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Nice catalog of Shishkin works; artwork a bit dark.By B. StephanI have been requested by to rate this work so here we are. Have not had time to read the commentary. Wonderful collection of Shishkin paintings. Reproduced art leans toward being a bit dark. I possess a catalog of Shishkin art published in Moscow in 1963. Comparing the plates reveals much lost detail in darker areas. Recently (July 2015) I visited the Kiev Museum of Russian Art and saw several of the original paintings; again; the reproductions in this book are a bit darker than the originals which reduces subtle details. For the money I have no big complaint; this book at small cost gives an excellent overview of a most talented landscape painter. However; the loss of detail in the illustrations does not do the artist justice.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Beautifully PresentedBy Forever ArtI had to wait a while for this book on preorder; but it was worth the wait. I am amazed at the quality of the writing; the history; and the wonderful illustrations of Shishkins paintings. If you are an artist; a historian; or a collector of fine books; you will not be disappointed in this book. It is going to have an honored place in my art library.
