NelsonIf youve ever looked at one of the tablature books for Paul Simon; you may have noticed that a lot of his songs are incredibly intimidating (at least to novice players such as myself). This book makes his music accessible to the less accomplished guitarist. Each song clearly lists the finger positions for the chords used in the song; and offers advice on tuning (up or down a half-step; etc.) as well as capo positioning. Although some of the songs in here are still very challenging for someone who is most comfortable with only the most basic of chords; improved success will likely motivate you to stretch your range (and your fingers) a bit. I know it has for me.I look forward to seeing if the other chord books in the "Little Black Songbook" series are just as good! The only down side is that the binding isnt very conducive to having the book spread out so you can gawk at it while you try to play.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This is a great series of songbooks.By SurlyHikerI have a half dozen of these books in the Little Black Songbook series and I think they are great books. They are accurate (based on comparisons with other sources); generally contain all the songs for the artist in question; and they provide accurate chord diagrams for the chords used in the songs (this is important; as we all know chords can have multiple voicings). In most of these books the chords are shown on the same page(s) as the song itself. The books are also a convenient size; and with the way they are bound it is easy to make the book lay flat on a music stand so that you can see both facing pages easily. One thing I dont like about the books is that they dont always indicate clearly the number of measures to play each chord; so you sometimes have to know the song to get it right. And with respect to the Bob Dylan book in particular; it does NOT show the chord diagrams on the same page as the song; but rather groups them all together in a fold out at the back of the book. All the other Little Black Songbooks that I own (like this Paul Simon book) put the chords on the same page as the song; which is way more convenient and important for getting the correct chord voicing.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The songs we loveBy F C B COSTAFor those who wants to play the vast Paul Simons work this book is for you. All songs and chords are clearly listed including the tough ones. The keys of the songs are true to those on the records and although i missed some songs the book covers almost the totallity of Simons work as a composer. My only complaint: This book should have spiral binding for an easier handling.
