As an early childhood educator this book gives me a wealth of creative ideas and very concrete ways for incorporating the performing arts (music; theater; dance; and musical theater) and helping me design curriculum. It has become an essential element in my teaching resource library. The author is obviously passionate about what she writes and presents her material in a most accessible and easy to implement way. I love how this book covers all the subjects and helps make what can be a challenging subject; such as math; more enjoyable. Children really learn when they are able to explore their world through experiences. I love all of the activities in this book but especially; "Oodles of Doodles" and "Sharing Emotions" and "Zip; Zap; Zop". "Oodles of Doodles" is by far my favorite and a great way to combine drawing with auditory perception and encourages children to creatively draw or write what they hear when they listen to a specific piece of music. This activity also encourages students to share and shows each students unique individuality. "Sharing Emotions" is a very interesting activity that teaches students to recognize their emotions as well as the ways that others are feeling. As a teacher I really appreciate the lesson plan format and the direct links with learning objectives and standards as well as the detailed procedures; extensions; and assessments which make this a turnkey resource. I also like that the book provides useful background and context; is very well organized; and is highly readable. All in all I highly recommend this book as a must have for any classroom; preschool through grade 5; as well as a handy reference for parents to foster learning and self-expression at home.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. and easy to implementBy LindaDr. Rajanrsquo;s book is an invaluable resource filled with creative teaching tools and activities to incorporate the performing arts into all areas of the curriculum. I like how the author provided step by step examples of how to include the performing arts into the curriculum. Ive already used some of the activities in the classroom and I feel it has motivated my students to be active participants. She made it so simple to implement and it has been very effective. All throughout the book; you can really sense her expertise and passion for the performing arts.
