These have been curable recently by accessing Google Earth and cyber-wandering the streets of my childhood and youth. But that wandering has raised many questions about Manningham; questions that; as I child; I never raised. Who built Apsley Crescent where I was born? How long has the Spotted House been a pub? What did the Cartwright Hall replace? This book goes a long way to answering those questions and thousands more. It also has the courage to suggest that recent neglect and architectural carelessness can be reversed and that the architecture of Manningham is worth making a fuss over. For anyone who has lived in Manningham or who has even walked; driven or bussed along Manningham Lane; this book is worth buying or borrowing. The DVD accompanying the book is also charming and has lots of atmospheric footage of Listers Mill and Manningham Park. My one criticism is the size of the maps; even with a magnifying glass plus the best will in the world; I found them hard to read.I loved the serious but readable approach to the subject and was delighted by the photographs.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Manningham BradfordBy Lorna AnnakinI think this book is extrordinary.I spent my childhood in ManninghamI left in 1965I worked in Listers Mill; winding wool into oz balls and packing them intoplastic bags I worked VERY hard on very noisy machines and in 1960 earned 15pounds about a week; when my friends in offices earned about three pounds. The house I lived in as a child was 257 Manningham Lane and I went to Belle View SchoolThe book has lots of photographs of houses I spent a lot of time in as a child.I thought the historical changes over the past 50 years quite amazing and very well written and researched.A wonderful book THANK YOU
