A Beautiful Book by a True Expert in the FieldBy Brad HamannDuring my own research on the illustrator George Stavrinos; I had the good fortune and extreme pleasure to meet Ms. Torre. What a wonderful experience it was to be able to visit the Francis Neady Collection of original fashion illustrations at FIT with her as my guide. Her wealth of knowledge and her true aesthetic appreciation and ability to analyze the evolution of and changes within the field of fashion illustration were very apparent that day; and they shine through in this beautiful book. Lavishly illustrated; extremely readable; it now holds an important place in my library. From its stunning cover featuring the work of Bil Donovan; through lively chapter after chapter with perfectly chosen examples of the art of fashion illustration; it is a truly enjoyable and enriching read. I give it my highest recommendation.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 20th-Century Fashion: The Feminine IdealBy Hilde JaffeReading this book was a delightful journey through the fashion world of the last century. Each period comes into clear focus as Rosemary Torre guides us through the ever evolving world of art and fashion. The engaging narrative and stylish illustrations bring each chapter to vivid life. The top fashion illustrators from each period depict the ideal woman of the day; from when women emerged from victorian concepts of femininity to the emancipated career woman of today. It was a great read!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
