Anna Mae Bullock grew up poor and did what she could to survive. Unwanted by her parents for most of her young life; various relatives helped to raise her.And then one day; she met Ike Turner and her life changed forever. She not only found fame as one half of Ike Tina Turner; singing classics like Proud Mary and Nutbush City Limits; she also found out what life was like when your husbands was volatile and prone to fits of rage. As Ike descended into cocaine-fueled rages the beatings became more severe. Tina tried to escape several times; but Ike always found her. It took her being introduced to Buddhism to give her strength and determination to leave. And it took awhile; but she found superstardom as a solo artist. But never let it be said that Tina Turner was a victim. Shes a survivor and an inspiration to millions. We know her for her hit songs; but Tina Turner: Break Every Rule by Mark Bego shows us that there is far more to Tina then the person she is on stage. We follow her journey from birth to her Farewell tour. From the abuse she suffered under Ike to finding true love. From having scant hits as a rock duo to becoming an international superstar at age 45.No one has lived a life like Tina Turner and Mark Bego shows in detail how little Anna Mae grew up to be one of the bestselling music artists of our time. Through her own mouth and the quotes of others; we learn how she made it through her journey in life. A lot of the early stuff may be familiar from Tinas own book: I; Tina; but Bego fills in what happens after her book ends. Her story and the strength it took to get where she is today are breathtaking; and Bego does a remarkable job at telling it. Definitely worth a read. And maybe her strength can help you on your journey through life.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Tina Turner Break Every Rule BiographyBy Arlette ClementsMr. Bego pretty much just rehashes the same story that Miss Tina Turner told previously; in her wonderful autobiography; that was co-written with Kurt Loder; back in 1986. There are a few new little tales; and some other stories that he might have placed more emphasis on; but overall; the same book!! There are also alot of dates that are not correct; and some of the people involved arent the ones that Tina Turner herself said were involved in some of the stories Mr. Bego has written about. But; I am a true fan of Miss Turners; so I like to read whatever is out there about her amazing life! Thank you; Arlette1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Proud WomanBy Barbara HillIve heard Tina Turner sing for years but only knew a little about her life. This book was an amazing journey through her early beginning to being a woman of her own first and a star in her own right. Loved it and highly recommend it to everyone but most especially to women who wonder if they will ever get out of the mess they are in. If Tina can do and make a beautiful life for herself; so can we.
