For me; it was interesting to read how recording works -- I thought that bands just got in the studio sang; but its much more than that. Ken Caillat Richard Dashut had a lot to do with finding the best sounds in the recordings to showcase Fleetwood Macs talents. It was fund hearing of the rock roll excesses of the 1970s insider bits about the band. Kind of amazing to me that the band producers came up with such a great album considering their massive consumption of booze alcohol whenever they were recording. Christine McVie has said before it was like being at a cocktail party every day. Caillat obviously recreated a lot though; so were relying on his memory of events. The pictures in the book should have been larger -- lots of them but even a magnifying glass doesnt help much. I would have liked to read more about Stevie Lindsey but thats another book I wish someone would write.I like this book much more than Carol Ann Harriss story of her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham. From reading Caillats book; its clear that Harris came in at the very tail end of Rumours but she writes as if she was in the trenches with them all along.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating but slightly flawed account of the recording of RumoursBy RickIt got the rating it got simply for the Fleetwood Mac content; of whom Im a big fan. As a recording engineer myself; there were some glaring errors; some mentioned in previous reviews. He misquotes the Leslie rotating speaker; misbrands a few microphones; and says that Keith Olsen was the OWNER of Sound City -- WRONG! Olsen was was an engineer/producer that was employed at Sound City; but later went on to run his OWN successful studio. I was also glad we stopped hearing about Nina and his stupid dog for awhile after they left Sausalito. But; I really DID devour this book rather quickly once I started reading it. I just wish Caillat Co had done their research a little better on the technical side.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An outstanding narrative of the birth of one of the worlds greatest albumsBy Alan C. SimkinI have re-read this wonderful story several times; and enjoyed each time. Ken Caillat; who can write as well as he produces; gives the reader amazing insights to the making of this classic favorite album. We get to meet all the members of Fleetwood Mac. We learn about the affairs; the tensions; the personality conflicts; and the genius that came together to create greatness. It looks at the bands creative methods as well as the technical aspects of how albums were recorded in the mid 70s. Were there with Ken through the whole process; the fun; the drugs; conflicts; and the sense of accomplishment and exhaustion from having given birth to one of musics greatest albums. You simply cannot miss this excellent book if you are a fan of the band; or even 70s music in general.
