The basic information is sound; however; a lot of it is already out of date. You can find a lot of this material on the internet for free. Check out the web pages for Arduino or RaspPi and any open forums to find out the basics for programmable boards. A solid primer on basic electronics and microcontrollersBy SitrussThis book does a surprisingly good job of explaining certain electronics basics that other well reviewed books didnt do nearly as well; though I still think it gets a bit more technical than I think it needs to be for the intended audience at times. The first third of the book works with basic components; then uses the Texas Instruments Launchpad as the basis for discussing different aspects of working with microcontrollers. Theres a few interesting and useful bits throughout the book like; for example; the chapter showing you how surprisingly straightforward it is to hack an infrared remote from anything to control your project wirelessly.I wish the author had included more examples of artwork in the book to see how the skills taught have been applied outside of test experiments; but at the same time Im glad its not a coffee table book. For someone unfamiliar with coding I think this book could be ordered better; as it ends on a weak note by trying to give you a crash course in programming. Im already familiar with a lot of info this book presents; but I still learned a few things and I think its absolutely worth a read for the non-technically inclined artist; so long as theyre willing to get into the weeds a bit on the technical side.
