I would love for Michael to define and show examples of different periods - like mid-century looks like this and has these attributes; Victorian looks like this; etc. I have yet to find fully defined periods of furniture anywhere including on the internet. I would also like to know winning combinations of colors.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great...but not excellentBy A CustomerI bought the book and just received it a couple of days ago. Although I am not finished reading it; so far so good. The book is a compilation of emails Michael has received during the years about decorating problems or disasters people have had and he offers recommendations on what to do in each situation. He includes pictures for every email showing how to solve the problem. The book is divided by rooms of the house; but not into subcategories (like paint; furnishings; tile; etc); so you will need to read every single email to check if what you are looking for or need help with is there.I do think he offers excellent advice to the emailers; but I was looking for something more general; which can give you answers to EVERY day situations. Many of these homes have particular architectural obstacles; which you probably wont encounter in your average home. I had bought another copy for my moms birthday; but I am returning it. I dont think she will need that book. Ill get her another decorating book.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. MIchael Answers With Inspiring Decorating IdeasBy rodboomboomOur TV fav host and ID does a neat thing: he answers emails and the publishes them with his answers and graphics. The show is really Michaels wonderful personality and design flexibility. Here it shows in advice on all rooms from kitchen to bath to living room to bedroom to dining room to family room and all others. His adept touch is in them all; such as this suggestion in regards to breathing new life into stale furniture on a tight budget: "have it professionally painted." Its answers like this that endure this guy to us in HGTVs audience. The index here is critical; since it cross-sections his answers not just by room; but by style; by topic e.g. wall color; by furniture piece; etc.100 of them with good color shots and sketches and Michael. Only thing wish hed included was a recommended bibliography for us who would like to go deeper.
