audiobook Gothic Ornament: Architectural Motifs from York Cathedral (Dover Pictorial Archive) by Joseph Halfpenny in Arts-Photography

Description

These royalty-free motifs feature exquisite specimens of the sculptured ornaments from northern Europes largest medieval cathedral. The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St. Peter in York; popularly known as York Minster; was founded as a missionary church. Its soaring Gothic architecture and vast interior; parts of which date back to the 13th century; feature some of the best examples of the medieval craftsmans work to be found anywhere. This compilation consists of 175 illustrations; selected from throughout the cathedral. Like the building of the church itself; the ornaments were executed during different eras. This collection; reproduced from a rare 18th-century volume; offers artists and graphic designers an unusual selection of authentic architectural motifs from the Middle Ages.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Political; Personal; PowerfulBy Peter AndereggUsing Americas morally ambiguous attitude toward enhanced interrogation in the years after 911; a time when too many were unable to distinguish xenophobia from patriotism and too eager to exchange fanaticism for reason; playwright Joe Sutton illuminates the struggles of an ordinary man trying to live by his conscience when; in fact; hes genuinely unsure what his conscience dictates. His flaw is self-doubt. While he believes fervently in journalists protecting their sources; ultimately hes not sure how to do that or even whether he should. In the end; he realizes that like too many children of the Sixties who protested the Vietnam War only to drift away the moment they were safe; his principles are too easily compromised when it is his life and livelihood on the line. Now he is left to reconcile himself with the terrible gap between how he hoped to act and how he actually did. He manages to save himself and his family; for a moment anyway; but at a price. Suttons gift is pitch perfect dialog that makes us sympathize with a man who falls so short as a journalist but not as a husband and father ... maybe. It doesnt matter on which end of the political spectrum you take your stand; there will be plenty to discuss with your fellow theater-goers when you go out for a drink after a show youll be glad you didnt miss. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
