A fine actors life in theaterBy A RICHARDAnyone interested in theater arts and the recent history of English theater will find this first-person account by Timothy West fascinating. A general audience may find it repetitious to some degree. Although most Americans may know West as a character actor in TV productions; he has had a lifetime of full; broad experience on the stage. His writing style is clear; often humorous; and assuredly literate. He engaged me as a reader enough that I read straight through this book rather than turning to others to read simultaneously; which is my usual pattern.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Theater in the UKBy HarryGreat perspective of life in the theater in UK. Ive enjoyed Timothy West in his few film roles; and it was a revelation to hear about his truly epic career.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Any Actors out there. READ!By Brycey101Have just finished reading this and am utterly shocked there has been no reviews written on for this autobiography. An incredibly modest and comical account of a well respected Actor. A must read for any Actors out there.Timothy West touches on composer Richard Strauss description of himself as; "A first-rate composer of the second rank"; relating this quote to himself as an Actor. A great summation of his career; though very modest. It gives an insight into the work he has done in the Theatrical trade alongside his Acting work; such as Director; Producer and Committee Member for Theatres. Food for thought for Actors who will just sit back and just consider the job of their agent to bring the work to them. His account of his personal life is very touching; with the description of not being present at his Fathers passing being something that was very moving while still being told in a lightish tone. It is clear that his parents were a great inspiration to him; as Im sure him and his wife are to his children. You feel like you really do get to know this Actor while reading the book; as opposed to a lot of other Theatrical Autobiographies I have read. The danger with Autobiographies is the author must tread carefully that the tone does sound arrogant or pompous (Unless that is the Authors intention!)But Timothy West; like in his Acting career through the years; always brings the Autobiography back to his love of Theatre; leaving me personally inspired to continue to work as an Actor.
