Beginning with the earliest experiments in musical accompaniment carried out in the Edison Laboratories; Kathryn Kalinak uses archival material to outline the history of American music and film. Focusing on the scores of several key composers of the sound era; including Erich Wolfgang Korngoldrsquo;s Captain Blood; Max Steinerrsquo;s The Informer; Bernard Herrmannrsquo;s The Magnificent Ambersons; and David Raksinrsquo;s Laura; Kalinak concludes that classical scoring conventions were designed to ensure the dominance of narrative exposition. Her analyses of contemporary work such as John Williamsrsquo; The Empire Strikes Back and Basil Poledourisrsquo; RoboCop demonstrate how the traditions of the classical era continue to influence scoring practices today.

Required Reading For Anyone Involved in the Management of Live Events!By Lalchemiste206This book is an excellent and comprehensive first effort at defining how to manage live events safely and efficiently. Produced by the Event Safety Alliance; it will doubtless undergo many revisions and additions as the scope and complexity of live events evolves. I highly recommend this book for event facilities management; workers; stagehands; performers; and security personnel. It is an easy-to-read compendium of information specific to this industry containing many references; links; and regulations about live event production.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
