Description

From Growing Up Country:ldquo;I learned early in life that country is not a place on a map. Country is a place in your heart. In your soul. In the very depth of your being.rdquo; mdash;Bill Anderson ldquo; One of the things I like most about country life is that nothing much has really changed . . . My grandchildren and I are still walking and hunting in the same woods and fishing in the same creeks as I did with my father.rdquo; mdash;President Jimmy Carter ldquo;Food was at the heart of our home. And; other than those troublesome vegetables; I loved all of it. We fried everythingmdash;wersquo;d have even fried water if we couldrsquo;ve.rdquo; mdash;Keith Anderson ldquo;I canrsquo;t imagine what my life would have been without peaceful days; mountain streams; homegrown and home-cooked food; country church; and all-day singing with dinner on the grounds with family and friends.rdquo; mdash;Dolly Parton ldquo;Growing up countrymdash;therersquo;s nothing like it. Itrsquo;s growing up with your grandmother and granddaddy around . . . itrsquo;s a lot of love when you need it; great cooking in the kitchen; and always being real.rdquo; mdash;Eddie MontgomeryBlackberry pie on the window ledge. The Grand Ole Opry on the radio. Sunday dinners on the table. Families swinging on the front porch after a hard dayrsquo;s work. Excellent source of detailed informationBy sarayaleI am building a new house and wanted some detailed information on materials that would assist in all the choices I will be making. This book is so much better than the infomation you find that is intended for consumers; which is very lacking in details and substance. For example; you will find good information on the different types of construction for kitchen cabinets. This is of great assistance when having to choose a cabinet manufacturer. Instead of blindly comparing cabinets you can actually understand the quality you are getting. I would recommend this book to builders; homeowners who will build or renovate; and architects. You are much better off spending on this book than most of the home maganzines; with the exception of Fine Homebuilding which is the best I have found for real infomation.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Not as good as the JLC Field GuidesBy Mr. D. CorcoranThis Best Practices Guide is a good reference book; but I think it pales in comparison to the two volume reference put out by the Journal of Light Construction; the JLC Field Guide to Residential Construction (Volumes 1 2). THe JLC guides have a much more uniform and cohesive format and illustration/graphic style.I have all three guides; and find myself using the JLC guides far more often in my residential remodel design practice.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good book; but out of dateBy Kathryn ScottGood book; but out of date. A lot of products that are currently on the market are not mentioned... products that now work better than those mentioned in the book.
