The impact on my heart when I realized that Shakespeare - my greatest literary and theatrical passion - could be used so creatively to help children with autism was monumental. Here was something I could DO. By following the Hunter Heartbeat method; I can help others by using Shakespeare. What could be better than that? To me; almost nothing. Kelly Hunters book is so clear; so available; so full of compassion for her students; that I know I can do it. Its about using the inspiration drawn from Shakespeares themes; words; and characters to reach the souls of children challenged to experience emotion and to communicate socially. Its also a call to those of us who do not have autism to think beyond drugs and positive/negative reinforcement for these children with creativity and imagination. This book gives me hope including the hope that good science will validate the method.
