The book has great pictures that help put the crochet pieces in perspective on real people. There are written instructions on not only the individual pieces; but also how to do seamless crochet. Honestly it is pretty complicated for me; so the DVD that came with the book was very helpful in figuring out how to do it. The DVD shows how to read the seamless crochet charts; how to perform some of the more complicated stitch work; and then it goes through making one of the items which is a cute hat. You could potentially follow along making the hat; but I decided to just watch it so I can see how its done. I dont know if Ill ever be an expert at this style of crochet; but I really like the idea of not having to sew a punch of motifs together! Once I was able to see how its done on the DVD; which in turn helped me to understand the charts in the book; I think I could get the hang of it. But its definitely a commitment to sit down and really focus on it. Its not something you can just leave and come back to until you get really good. Heads up to left handed crochetersBy A.R.Ive seen this type of crochet in Japanese crochet books before; so when I saw that a book in English was coming out I was hyped for it. I thought I might get some more insight on how to work these patterns. I didnt. The charts and maybe some pictures of hand and hook position are all you need.The reason I wanted more info about this technique? Im a left handed crocheter. These patterns are very directional; but if you[re like most lefties you can reverse most of this stuff in your head as you go. Swatch first to see if theres going to be any hinky areas in the pattern. Its a method that takes some planning ahead ; even more if youre a leftie depending on the pattern you choose. Its been a while; but I remember points where I had to take the hook out and put it back in so I was on the right side of the chain.
